| “Photography has increased my awareness.” - Andreas Carl Otherwise known as Rebecca Tun the model, I’m also a small-time GWC – that is, a girl with a camera. I like to create strongly stylized pictures with a distinctive mood and genre. Actually, I’m not really a photographer – I’m just an artist who uses a camera and a computer to make pictures. I guess my portfolio will tell you about my style and methods, but I like to be able to put things into words as well: I’ve become used to categorizing my work into ‘Fashionart’ and ‘Lifeart’ but these aren’t mutually exclusive or sufficient any more. So, more loosely: my work is about the body, beauty, personality, emotion, storytelling, imagination, moods, the physical quality of things, and most of all style…which I guess is most generally charisma, and more restrictedly the presentations of fashion. I started taking photos in Summer ‘09, with portraits of my beautiful siblings. They continue to be my long-term muses whom I regularly kidnap, dressing them up in ridiculous outfits or just following them around with the camera. I love the magic and raw emotion of the ’reluctant subject’. But then of course there is the other half of my photography, my work with professional or aspiring models. These shoots tend to be elaborately planned and conceptualized beforehand, and I’ll often enlist the help of a make-up artist and use a studio. Some of my favourite artists are Luis Royo, Sally Mann, David Hamilton, Jock Sturges, Sarah Moon, Wendy Bevan, Ellen von Unwerth, Paulo Roversi, Serge Lutens, and Chema Madoz. The list will expand. |
